Teeth whitening: laser & home

Lightening the colour of natural teeth once your teeth and gums are confirmed healthy.

Illustrative image.

Whitening is a cosmetic procedure to lighten natural teeth, and it always starts with checking that your teeth and gums are healthy — there may be something that needs treating first.

Fillings and crowns don't lighten the way natural teeth do, so a colour mismatch may need discussing in advance. Results vary from person to person and are not permanent.

Two ways to whiten

  • In-clinic (laser) whitening: a session at the clinic with a whitening gel activated by light, supervised by the doctor.
  • Home whitening: custom-made trays and a whitening gel you use at home, following the instructions and for the time the doctor sets.

The doctor helps you choose after an examination.

What to expect

  • An examination and assessment before deciding.
  • A realistic conversation about results — no promised shade.
  • Temporary sensitivity or gum irritation can occur.
  • Tips for maintaining the result.

General information only. The right treatment for you is decided after an examination, and results vary from person to person.
